By providing subsidies to record labels for projects and artists of merit, the Classical Recording Foundation helps to ensure that there is a legacy of exciting new recordings by noteworthy artists of all ages and career stages.

CRF takes risks on artists and repertoire that major labels avoid, and mitigates the frustration felt by many artists feel due to the lack of recording opportunities.  By identifying talents that have been overlooked for whatever reasons, the Foundation rights a wrong that has been detrimental to artists and audiences alike.

The Classical Recording Foundation does not benefit from record sales or royalties, and depends entirely on support from generous individuals and corporations, as well as merit-based grants from public and private sources.

In 2007, the Classical Recording Foundation was recognized with its first grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.  Other recent grants include support from the Aaron Copland Fund and the Argosy Foundation.

CRF is a non-profit corporation formed under the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law of New York State, and has federal tax-exempt status under IRS code 501(c)(3). Contributions to CRF are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
